3Ms

Writer: Irfaan HaffejeeIrfaan Haffejee

The 3 major roadblocks that need to be overcome are Muda [wasteful activities], Muri [overburden], Mura [unevenness] which can affect the work processes in a negative way.

· Muda: we’ve gone into detail about waste above.

· Mura: This stands for unevenness or variation, which means there are inconsistencies in a process that are leading to fluctuations in production. It can represent an uneven schedule amongst employees as well i.e., Overworking then idling. This can be shown using either statistical process/quality control.

· Muri: Stands for overburden, and this means to put too much stress on people and/or machines.

All 3 M’s are intertwined and need to be looked at together in order to efficiently work. Overburdening people can lead to defects (Mura) which means rework or wait time (Muda)
