Design Thinking

Writer: Irfaan HaffejeeIrfaan Haffejee

Design thinking is an iterative process in which the goal is to understand the user, look at problems differently by implementing alternative strategies through a human-centered approach. It involves understanding and emphasizing with the people for whom the product is meant. It is iterative so therefore feedback loops are implemented when going through the different phases. It allows us to think differently from what has been ingrained into us and therefore allows these alternate solutions to conceptualize. The phases are:

· Empathize – with the userbase

· Define – the problem and the needs of the customer

· Ideate – Innovating new ideas or concepts in order to challenge assumptions

· Prototype – creating your ideas or concepts in order to test its viability.

· Test – pretty self-explanatory and depending on the outcome, new iterations will be formed in order to further enhance the solution.
