Value and Waste

We should always remember that value in lean is defined by the customer and we should always aim to identify waste activities and where value is added. A value adding activity is defined by any activity that contributes to the transition of the product from its raw to completed state. This is preferred to be done in the least amount of time and at minimal cost to the customer. Non-value adding activities are those that affect organizational efficiency and is considered waste. [14] There are 7 kinds of waste outlined with an example in the below table:
